Best Vape Starter Kit: 5 Beginner-Friendly Kits and What Each One Suits
23rd Oct 2026
If you are coming from cigarettes, the best vape starter kit is the one that settles your biggest worry about the switch: complication, the feel of the draw, cost, strength or outgrowing the kit. The five kits below each answer one of those worries. All five are sold at Go Smoke Free, and the wider range has more if none of them fits. If you would rather work through the decision first, our guide to choosing your first starter kit goes through it in more detail.
What to Know Before You Buy Your First Vape Kit
Three of the five are pod kits: a small refillable pod clicks onto a rechargeable battery, and the coil is built into the pod, so there is nothing to build or wire. The other two, the Aspire PockeX and Innokin Endura T18E, are pen-style tank kits with a small tank and a replaceable coil head. You fill the pod or tank with e-liquid, charge the battery and use it. All five give a mouth-to-lung draw, where you pull the vapour into your mouth first and then breathe it in, which is the tighter, cigarette-like pull most people coming from smoking find natural.
Nic salt and 50/50 e-liquid both suit these kits. Nic salt (nicotine salt) is a smoother form of nicotine made for small, lower-power devices, while 50/50 e-liquid uses freebase nicotine and gives a firmer throat hit. The legal maximum strength in the UK is 20mg/ml under the Tobacco and Related Products Regulations 2016. People who smoked heavily often start towards the top of the range for the type they choose and lighter smokers tend to start lower, with many stepping down over time. That is a common pattern and not medical advice, so a pharmacist or GP can talk it through if you are unsure. When you are ready to reduce, our guide to lowering your nicotine strength explains how.
If a disposable is what you had in mind, these are the legal replacements. Businesses in the UK can no longer sell or supply single-use vapes, and GOV.UK's guidance on the single-use vapes ban sets out the rules. A rechargeable kit works in a similar way with no coil to build, and only the pod, coil or e-liquid needs replacing, not the whole device.
If you would like to compare these with other mouth-to-lung pod kits by draw style, our guide to the best MTL pod vape kits covers more options.

Simplest to Use: Vaporesso XROS Mini
The Vaporesso XROS Mini is built around nothing to press and nothing to adjust. It is auto-draw, so it fires when you inhale, with no button to learn or hold down.
The 2ml pod fills from the top, so refilling does not involve touching a coil. It has a 1000mAh battery and charges over USB-C with the cable in the box, and the listing includes a free 10ml bottle of UK-made nic salt e-liquid, so you can start without a separate purchase. If you want to think about your first vape no further than charging and filling it, this is the one to start with.
Cigarette-Style Draw: Aspire PockeX
The Aspire PockeX is for the switcher who worries a vape will not feel enough like smoking. Its airflow is pre-set tight for mouth-to-lung vaping, the draw most similar to a cigarette's, and there is no airflow slider to fiddle with.
It runs on a single button, five clicks to switch it on or off, and has the largest battery of the five at 1500mAh. The tank is Pyrex glass and holds 2ml, and you can vape while it charges. A USB charging cable is included in the box. The listing includes three free 10ml e-liquids, so there is plenty to try before you need to buy more.
It comes with two coils. The 1.2Ω coil is pre-installed and suits the included 50/50 e-liquids, while the 0.6Ω coil needs a high VG e-liquid, which is not in the free bundle.
Low Commitment: OXVA Xlim Go
The OXVA Xlim Go suits someone who is not ready to put much into a first kit until they know vaping is for them. It is light at 41g, inhale-activated, and has a 1000mAh battery and a 2ml top-fill pod with a 0.8Ω coil.
It also has an adjustable airflow control, so you can loosen or tighten the draw as you learn what you like. Two details to plan for: no e-liquid is included, so add a 10ml bottle to your order, and the USB-C charging cable is not in the box either.
Firmer Hit for Heavier Smokers: Innokin Endura T18E
The Innokin Endura T18E is a pen-style, one-button kit, a shape closer to a cigarette than a compact pod. It is aimed at people who smoked a lot and want a more deliberate draw, and our guide to the best vape for a heavy smoker has more on choosing a kit if that sounds like you.
It has a 1000mAh battery and a 2ml tank, pass-through charging so you can keep using it while it charges, and a three-click lock to stop it firing in a pocket. The listing includes two free 10ml e-liquids, and a USB charging lead and a pen stand are in the box. There is no wattage to set and no airflow to adjust, which keeps the first week simple.
Room to Adjust Later: VooPoo Argus G2 Mini
The VooPoo Argus G2 Mini is for someone who suspects they will want more control once the first few weeks are behind them. It is inhale-activated like the XROS Mini, so the first few days are just as simple, but a side slider adjusts the airflow from a tight pull to a looser one.
It has a 1200mAh battery, a 2ml pod and a built-in 0.7Ω coil for mouth-to-lung and restricted lung vaping. The listing includes a free 10ml bottle in 10mg, with a choice of two flavours, and the USB-C charging cable is not included.
Do Starter Kits Come With E-Liquid?
Four of the five do. The XROS Mini, PockeX, Endura T18E and Argus G2 Mini all currently include at least one free 10ml bottle, enough to start without an extra purchase. The Xlim Go does not, so it needs a bottle added to the order before it is any use.
The free e-liquid is not the same type across the kits. The XROS Mini's is a nic salt, while the PockeX bundle's are 50/50, so check the type and strength in the product options before ordering.
Some kits across the wider range are also sold without e-liquid, so check the product page before ordering. Our guide to the best e-liquids for pod vape kits helps if you want to choose your own flavour.
Do You Need to Be 18 to Buy a Vape?
Yes. The minimum age to buy a nicotine vape, pod, kit or e-liquid in the UK is 18, and retailers can ask for ID if they are unsure of your age. In England and Wales this is currently set out in the Nicotine Inhaling Products (Age of Sale and Proxy Purchasing) Regulations 2015. From 29 October 2026, GOV.UK’s guidance for sellers of vaping and nicotine products says the age of sale will be 18 and over for all vaping and nicotine products across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, which extends the rule to nicotine-free vapes in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The same regulations cover proxy purchasing, so an adult buying a starter kit for someone under 18 can also commit an offence.
FAQs
Do these starter kits come with a charging cable?
It depends on the kit. The XROS Mini has a USB-C cable in the box, and the PockeX and Endura T18E each include a USB cable. The Xlim Go and Argus G2 Mini do not include a USB-C cable, so you will need your own before you can charge them.
What is the difference between a pod kit and a pen-style kit?
A pod kit uses a small pod with the coil built in, so when the flavour fades you swap the whole pod. A pen-style tank kit, like the PockeX and Endura T18E, has a tank you fill with e-liquid and a coil head you replace separately. Both work in the same simple way day to day: fill, charge and vape.
What do I replace when a pod or coil wears out?
On the pod kits you replace the pod. See our Vaporesso pods for the XROS Mini, OXVA pods for the Xlim Go and VooPoo pods for the Argus G2 Mini, and check the product page for the exact pod that fits. On the PockeX and Endura T18E you replace the coil head instead, using our Aspire coils and Innokin coils. Coil heads are specific to each kit, so match the one on the product page.
Can I vape while the kit is charging?
Two of the five can. The PockeX can be used while it charges, and the Endura T18E has pass-through charging. Check the product page for the others before relying on it.
Which Starter Kit Should You Choose?
If you cannot decide, match the worry to the kit. Choose the XROS Mini if you want nothing to learn, the PockeX if the draw is your main concern, the Xlim Go if you want to keep the commitment small, the Endura T18E if you smoked heavily, and the Argus G2 Mini if you expect to want more control later.
