How Many Cigarettes are in a Vape?

19th Mar 2023

One of the common questions asked by smokers who are considering switching to vaping is, "how many cigarettes are in a vape?"

The answer to this question is really not straightforward, since there’s no direct conversion between cigarettes and vapes.

There are a few factors involved in trying to calculate how many cigarettes are in a vape - such as the nicotine strength of the e-liquid, the frequency of vaping, and the user’s individual smoking habits. Whilst some studies suggest that a millilitre of e-liquid can be roughly equated to a single cigarette in terms of its nicotine content, this is really just an estimate. Everyone’s body absorbs nicotine differently, so it’s difficult to make an accurate comparison.

The amount of nicotine in a cigarette varies depending on the brand; on average, a single cigarette contains about 10 to 12 mg of nicotine. Vapes, on the other hand, come in a range of nicotine strengths, which are measured in milligrams per millilitre (mg/ml).

A typical vape pen, for example, might have a 2% nicotine concentration, which translates to 50 mg/ml. This means that for every millilitre of e-liquid, there is 20 mg of nicotine. However, it's worth noting that some vapes have much lower nicotine concentrations, ranging from 0% to 2%.

It's also helpful to consider that vaping is not just about nicotine. While nicotine is the addictive substance in cigarettes, vaping provides a wide range of e-liquid flavours that can make the experience more enjoyable. Additionally, vaping does not produce the harmful smoke associated with traditional cigarettes.

There is no doubt that vaping is a healthier alternative to smoking, and many people have successfully stopped smoking altogether by vaping. If you are thinking about transitioning to vaping, it’s useful to conduct thorough research and choose a high-quality vape product to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
