Driving during the winter months can be very dangerous. When the first snows begin to fall we are entranced. We want to play in the snow and make snowmen. We aren't even terribly upset when the snow means that we can't go to work. But soon after the snow falls it becomes compacted and dirty and so very, very slippery. And this is only made worse when the snow becomes ice and begins to melt.
In these conditions simply walking down the street can be a bit of a gauntlet, the threat of slipping awaiting you unseen. This danger is multiplied however when you are driving because the road is slippery and of course you are going much faster.
While the risk of an accident is there, there are things that you can do to minimise the risk and even prevent accidents. There is yaktrax for example, which will help you walk more safely on ice and compacted snow.
Wearing rubber soled shoes will make a big difference. If you are wearing shoes that have no grip you may even fall in normal weather. But if you wear smooth shoes on ice, you might as well go out in protective padding.
Or you could avoid injury and pain and just consider what you put on your feet. The right shoes can make a big difference to whether or not you fall.
